The 2023 recipient of Lëtzebuerger Danzpräis, Léa Tirabasso is known for creating choreographies using tension, visceral expression, and empirical investigation. When developing In the bushes, Tirabasso was guided by palaeontologist Henry Gee’s book The Accidental Species, which challenges the common notion of humans being the pinnacle of evolution. She and her six dancers embrace humanity and all its incoherencies, exploring questions of shame, stigma, and societal norms, and revealing our vulnerable, exposed selves with exuberant fervour. Brahm’s Schicksalslied, Op. 54, serves as a base for Johanna Bramli and Ed Chivers’ new electronic score.
